Responsibilities
- Supervising building maintenance technicians and skilled tradesmen such as plumbers, carpenters, painters, welders, locksmiths, masons, sign fabricators, and electricians in the building maintenance section.
- Performing general and specialized administrative duties such as reviewing and approving leave requests; counseling employees, writing inter-departmental reports, attending meetings, and corresponding with upper-level supervisors and other departments on the daily activities at the BWI Marshall Airport.
- Maintaining safe operating practices and enforcing same through building maintenance inspections, writing, and following up on work orders through the automated work order system.
Qualifications
- Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
- Experience: Five years of experience in construction, facilities maintenance, grounds, or skilled trades work. One year of this experience must have been in a lead worker, or crew leader capacity. Two years of maintenance work involving interacting with the public in large facilities or maintaining outdoor grounds.

- Work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
- U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as defined under the Minimum Qualifications may be substituted for the required education and experience on a year-for-year basis.
- Licenses & Certifications: Employees applying for the Facility Maintenance Supervisor I classification may be required to possess and maintain a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) valid in the State of Maryland, depending on the type of equipment operated, that may be required for continued employment.

- Employees who work with or may be exposed to hazardous materials such as asbestos, lead-based paint or chromium may be required to undergo periodic medical testing, pass hazardous materials training, and have the ability to wear a respirator.
