Facility Maintenance Lead - Ice
About the role
The Facility Maintenance Lead - Ice is responsible for the supervision of the custodial/janitorial/zamboni staff. The position oversees ice maintenance staff, custodial services, preventative maintenance, and repair of assigned facility with a strong focus on safety, customer satisfaction, staff productivity, and cleanliness.
Responsibilities
- Oversees ice maintenance staff, custodial services, preventative maintenance, and repair of assigned facility with a strong focus on safety, customer satisfaction, staff productivity, and cleanliness.
- Schedules staff and provides backup support including custodial tasks as needed.
- Reviews and approves employee biweekly timesheets. Works with Payroll Department to resolve any pay issues.
- Plans, assigns and directs personnel engaged in custodial and preventative maintenance, special projects, off-season crews and work order assignments and ice facility water softener.
- Aids Supervisor in the development of project objectives, standards and procedures. Coordinates the set-up, repair, inspection, shutdown, and custodial and preventative maintenance of the facility.
- Supervises daily Zamboni, custodial and preventative maintenance of the facility according to standards and facility expectations. Services assigned equipment including Zambonis, ice level equipment, tools and ice compressors, heating and air conditioning units and accommodating attachments.
- Establishes and maintains custodial and preventative maintenance management programs for the facility including inventory of all major mechanical equipment, custodial supplies, identification and timetable for ongoing evening tasks (i.e. repairs, cleaning, inspections, painting, etc.).
- Attends various meetings to coordinate, plan and communicate with other departments.
- Supervises and assists in moving and arranging furniture and equipment for programs, meetings, and special functions.
- Accountable for appropriate vendor contacts. Includes securing price quotes through bidding procedures, determining award of purchase orders based on price/cost analysis, and evaluation of vendor performance.
- Completes all daily maintenance, incident/accident reports, and inventory logs according to District procedures in a timely manner.
- Responds tactfully, respectfully and in a timely manner to inquiries and problems in person, through email, phone and mail by providing helpful information and explanations in-line with District policies and procedures. Thoughtfully handles confrontational or stressful interactions.
- Develops and maintains professional relationships with District employees, vendors, various outside user groups and associations to coordinate their programs and special events.
- Attends and participates in professional group meetings; stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of recreation facility management.
- Attends and participates in staff meetings, trainings, and orientations.
- If appropriate, meets regularly with the operations manager of our contracted janitorial service to ensure cleanliness and upkeep of the facility.
- Works some evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
- Hires, supervises, schedules, and evaluates assigned staff. Provides or coordinates staff training. Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations. Works with employees to correct deficiencies. Observes necessary precautions to assure general public safety; inspects facilities to identify safety and maintenance needs by conducting facility walk-throughs on an on-going systematic basis.
Requirements
Must be eighteen (18) years of age. Associate's Degree in Building and Custodial Maintenance or related field. One (1) year related skilled and semi-skilled labor experience that is inherent to custodial maintenance, facility maintenance and park or related grounds maintenance. Two (2) years' related experience preferred. Electrical, plumbing, HVAC and/or swimming pool maintenance experience preferred. Previous personnel leadership/supervision preferred.
Qualifications
General knowledge of the techniques and equipment involved in the components of custodial, preventative, building, and/or ice maintenance. General knowledge of and ability to perform safety and emergency first aid procedures. General knowledge of budget planning and management. Skills in recruiting, training, supervising, evaluating, and motivating employees. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Excel, Word, Outlook and Publisher. Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high-volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to provide outstanding customer service, establish and maintain effective working relationships, and interact with others in a professional manner. Ability to work a varied schedule which may include some evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Skills
- First Aid, CPR, and AED certificates required or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.
- Valid Colorado Driver License or the ability to obtain upon hire and maintain an acceptable driving record.
- Mandatory Reporting certification, or the ability to obtain within 30 days.
- Certified Ice Technician preferred.
- Mobile Elevated Work Platform certification or ability to obtain upon hire.
