Facility Maintenance - Jail - Journeyman Electrician

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems, components, switchgears, motors, compressors, generators, transformer taps and equipment related to commercial buildings.
• Run wiring, install switches, outlets, and circuit breakers, and ensure compliance with relevant electrical codes and regulations.
• Troubleshoot electrical issues and identify the root cause of problems in electrical systems using various testing devices and techniques.
• Read and interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to understand the layout and specifications of electrical systems.
• Adhere to safety protocols and standards to prevent accidents, electrical hazards, and injuries, including following proper lockout/tagout procedures, using personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintaining a safe work environment.
• Ensure all electrical work meets the necessary requirements set forth by local, state, and national electrical codes.
• Conduct thorough testing and inspection of electrical systems using specialized equipment to assess the functionality and performance of electrical components, ensuring they meet specified standards and specifications.
• Work as part of a team, collaborating with other electricians, contractors, or other tradesmen for effective coordination and completion of projects.
• Lead others in highly skilled fabrication or modifications of existing or proposed equipment, facilities, systems or their components from verbal directions, sketches, plans, engineering drawings or technical references.
• Prepare estimates for unique or complex operations, maintenance and special projects from rough sketches and engineering plans or drawings, and document use and expenditures of materials, supplies and equipment.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation of electrical work, including creating work orders, recording repairs, and documenting equipment maintenance through a Computer Maintenance Management System.
• Communicate effectively, address concerns, and ensure satisfaction with excellent customer service.
• Stay updated with industry advancements, new technologies, and changes in electrical codes, engaging in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
• May respond to after-hour emergencies.
• Perform all other duties as assigned, including overtime as required.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED, along with successful completion of an electrical apprentice program.
• Minimum of five years of experience as an electrician.
• Minimum four (4) years journey-level experience in industrial and commercial electrical installation, maintenance, and repair.
• Journey-level experience in the operation, maintenance, repair, and control wiring of electrical distribution gear, motor control centers, uninterrupted/conditioning power systems, power generators, electrical/electronic locking systems, low/high voltage lighting, or related commercial and industrial applications and raceway installations.
• Completion of a state-accredited electrical apprenticeship program.
• Valid Driver’s License to perform field work and/or to operate county owned vehicles required.
