Facility Maintenance Engineer
About the role
A skilled maintenance engineer to manage the maintenance program and equipment located at Stow, OH. The candidate will oversee the service and maintenance of electro-mechanical equipment, including Daniels robotic wash lines, autoclaves, boilers, and facilities to support the local site operation. The role includes travel and occasional short-notice support to sites where emergency maintenance is required. The candidate must have a strong background in remote troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of production equipment and the ability to develop a sound knowledge of the working operations of a medical waste processing center.
The role focuses on managing the maintenance system, servicing equipment, performing emergency repairs, establishing best practices for machine adjustments and repairs, and training operations and local maintenance staff. The candidate will administer a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and travel to facilities as needed for major breakdowns, upgrades, installations, or other emergency situations.
Responsibilities
- Develop and supervise preventative maintenance plans for key equipment to ensure maintenance meets or exceeds OEM requirements.
- Perform remote and on-site troubleshooting, service, and repairs to minimize downtime and restore production quickly.
- Provide timely engineering and technical support to maintenance and operational staff.
- Coordinate with Engineering and Maintenance teams to arrange spare parts, travel schedules, and support.
- Design and implement machine upgrades and modifications to improve safety, compliance, quality, reliability, or efficiency.
- Assemble, align, and install equipment and upgrades while adhering to timelines and budgets.
- Interface with cross-functional teams such as plant operations, engineering, and suppliers.
- Communicate with Plant Managers to schedule downtime for maintenance activities.
- Report daily on equipment downtime events exceeding 1 hour in duration.
- Report weekly on outstanding and major upcoming maintenance events.
- Maintain spare parts inventory programs at Daniels locations in conjunction with plant management and technicians.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Production Engineering preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in a similar role.
- Hands-on mechanical experience with assemblies and production equipment.
- Hands-on welding experience for repair work.
- Electrical experience, including identifying issues, communicating fault conditions, and making repairs.
- Ability to design or plan modifications to mechanical and electrical systems to improve reliability or operability.
- PLC troubleshooting and modification experience, including remote connections and telephone support.
- Experience developing and maintaining a CMMS system program.
- Knowledge of computerized machines and intermediate understanding of machine language.
- Strong communication skills to coordinate with technician teams and identify machine faults or technical issues.
