About the role
This position involves supervising part-time recreation staff, special interest instructors, seasonal employees, and volunteers. It also includes assisting the Indoor Recreation Center Director in managing the building maintenance and equipment operation of the various building components.
Responsibilities
- Supervise part-time recreation staff, special interest instructors, seasonal employees, and volunteers.
- Develop and maintain good rapport with all staff members.
- Assist the Director in managing the building maintenance and equipment operation of the various building components, including gymnasium, natatorium, fitness center, aerobics room, locker rooms/shower areas, and public restrooms.
- Afford assistance to lifeguards, swim instructors, fitness instructors, and class schedulers.
- Evaluate applicants, train, and coordinate schedules for lifeguards, swim instructors, and fitness instructors.
- Ensure compliance with regulations, and safety and health standards for all building uses and participants.
- Issue written and oral instructions; assign duties; examine work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.
- Perform a variety of miscellaneous duties such as answering telephone, typing correspondence, running errands, picking up supplies needed for activities, making arrangements for rental and use of Indoor Recreation Building, helping to set up tables and chairs for classes, etc.
- Promote the Facility and its programs; provide information regarding recreation programs to school officials, other recreation officials, community service groups, other departments, and the general public.
- Handle facility rentals and be responsible for opening and closing to rentals during special hours.
- Respond to public inquiries about recreation programs made by telephone and correspondence.
- Operate a variety of equipment such as personal computer, motor vehicle, calculator, telephone, copy and fax machine, mobile or portable radio, sports equipment used in recreation programs, maintenance equipment, swimming pool equipment, chlorination system, pumps, boiler, valves, filtration devices, etc.
- Use a variety of tools and supplies such as miscellaneous hand and power tools, gauges, general office supplies, etc.; and a variety of computer software such as word processing, etc.
- Work with various community groups, local recreation groups, and individuals in coordination rental uses of portions of the Central Clemson Indoor Recreation Center as needed.
- Aid the Director in any facility-related issues as assigned.
- When necessary, perform custodial duties.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or GED supplemented by two years of progressively responsible experience in recreation management, programming, and equipment.
- A valid South Carolina driver's license.
- First Aid and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation certification.
- Red Cross Lifeguard certification.
