About the Role

This Electrician position is responsible for performing major and minor electrical maintenance, preventative maintenance, repairs, replacements, diagnosis, and troubleshooting of electrical systems and equipment throughout Port property. The role reports directly to the Facilities Manager and supports all Canaveral Port Authority (CPA) owned facilities. Weekend work is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform advanced troubleshooting, repair, and replacement of electrical systems and equipment, including motors, controllers, VFDs, transformers, lighting, and power distribution.
• Maintain high safety awareness and compliance with OSHA requirements, preferably in a maritime environment.
• Adhere to the latest National Electrical Code (NEC) standards.
• Safely work with electrical equipment of voltages 480 VAC and lower using various electrical meters.
• Test, troubleshoot, and replace electrical switchgear and power distribution equipment.
• Perform electrical construction tasks, including conduit pipe threading, raceway installation, wire pulling, splicing, and terminating devices.
• Repair, troubleshoot, or replace motors, VFDs, and motor controls.
• Complete work orders and documentation using a Maintenance Management Work Order System.
• Diagnose, repair, and replace components of lighting systems, including LED lighting.
• Read and interpret electrical drawings, blueprints, sketches, and schematics.
• Inspect buildings, grounds, and equipment for unsafe or malfunctioning conditions.
• Apply preventative maintenance, inspection, repair, and construction methods for buildings and utilities.
• Safely operate power tools and equipment used in electrical, construction, and repair tasks.
• Operate computers for automated systems, emails, and work order management.
• Safely operate CPA vehicles, including vans, trucks, boom lifts, scissor lifts, forklifts, and large construction equipment.
• Serve as an essential employee during emergencies (natural, man-made, or public health) and perform emergency or recovery operations outside normal working hours.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience as an electrician-mechanic, preferably in a commercial/industrial setting.
• Ability to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC).
• Team player with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, flexibility, and self-motivation.
• Willingness to work weekends and holidays.
• Basic computer skills.
• Valid Florida Driver’s License or ability to obtain one within 30 days.
• Journeyman or Master’s Certification preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and handle up to 70 pounds.
• Perform physically demanding tasks, including reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
• Operate heavy equipment such as scissor lifts, boom lifts, forklifts, front-end loaders, and jackhammers.
• Work in tight or enclosed spaces, at heights, and in indoor/outdoor environments.
• Potential exposure to heat, humidity, inclement weather, and moving vehicles/equipment.
