About the Role

Under limited supervision, performs routine cleaning and maintenance of County facilities, including grounds maintenance and minor repairs. This is primarily a custodial position, with approximately 80 to 90% of time spent indoors and 10 to 20% outdoors performing landscape duties.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans and maintains County facilities.
  • Identifies and reports repair needs.
  • Performs grounds maintenance, including snow removal.
  • May perform minor repairs and painting.
  • May assist with special events.

Essential functions include:

  • Driving, standing, walking, reaching, crouching, bending, and stooping to perform maintenance work.
  • Lifting and carrying up to 60 pounds; team lifting up to 100 pounds.
  • Working with and around other employees and co-workers.
  • Working with frequent interruptions and repetitive motion of hands, wrists, elbows, and shoulders.
  • Hearing and speech for communication with employees and co-workers.
  • Ability to safely use ladders up to 13 feet in height.
  • Working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Reporting to work during declared emergencies.
  • Working varying shifts, weekends, and holidays.
  • Preparing and maintaining records and reports.

Requirements

  • One year of custodial experience; OR any combination of education, training, and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Must obtain and maintain an Arizona driver’s license by date of hire.
  • This position is non-exempt from overtime and is safety-sensitive.

Skills

Working knowledge of:

  • Materials, equipment, and procedures used in custodial work.
  • Methods, practices, tools, and materials used in building maintenance and repair.
  • Occupational hazards and procedures for storing and handling hazardous materials.

Ability to:

  • Operate a variety of custodial and maintenance equipment.
  • Maintain a safe workplace.
  • Read and understand product labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and apply appropriate safety precautions.
  • Effectively handle lifting of objects weighing up to 60 pounds.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
