About the Role
Under limited supervision, performs routine cleaning and maintenance of County facilities, including grounds maintenance and minor repairs. This is primarily a custodial position, with approximately 80 to 90% of time spent indoors and 10 to 20% outdoors performing landscape duties.
Responsibilities
- Cleans and maintains County facilities.
- Identifies and reports repair needs.
- Performs grounds maintenance, including snow removal.
- May perform minor repairs and painting.
- May assist with special events.
Essential functions include:
- Driving, standing, walking, reaching, crouching, bending, and stooping to perform maintenance work.
- Lifting and carrying up to 60 pounds; team lifting up to 100 pounds.
- Working with and around other employees and co-workers.
- Working with frequent interruptions and repetitive motion of hands, wrists, elbows, and shoulders.
- Hearing and speech for communication with employees and co-workers.
- Ability to safely use ladders up to 13 feet in height.
- Working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Reporting to work during declared emergencies.
- Working varying shifts, weekends, and holidays.
- Preparing and maintaining records and reports.
Requirements
- One year of custodial experience; OR any combination of education, training, and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Must obtain and maintain an Arizona driver’s license by date of hire.
- This position is non-exempt from overtime and is safety-sensitive.
Skills
Working knowledge of:
- Materials, equipment, and procedures used in custodial work.
- Methods, practices, tools, and materials used in building maintenance and repair.
- Occupational hazards and procedures for storing and handling hazardous materials.
Ability to:
- Operate a variety of custodial and maintenance equipment.
- Maintain a safe workplace.
- Read and understand product labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and apply appropriate safety precautions.
- Effectively handle lifting of objects weighing up to 60 pounds.
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.
- Follow written and verbal instructions.
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
