About the role

This role is on-site in Schakelfort, Texas (no exceptions). Relocation assistance is available.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily operations, maintenance, and service execution for critical mechanical and HVAC infrastructure.
  • Own mechanical plant readiness, including preventive maintenance, corrective work, inspections, restoration activities, and maintenance backlog management.
  • Serve as the primary site point of contact and technical lead for mechanical systems, including incident escalation and operational decision support.
  • Manage Facilities Technicians, contractors, and service vendors, ensuring strong safety performance, quality of work, documentation rigor, and SLA adherence.
  • Drive troubleshooting and response for mechanical failures, abnormal conditions, and performance degradation impacting uptime or operational stability.
  • Track and improve KPIs such as equipment availability, backlog health, MTTR, repeat failures, maintenance completion, and corrective action closure.
  • Partner with engineering, commissioning, deployment, reliability, and controls teams on retrofits, upgrades, system turnover, and operational acceptance.
  • Lead or support root cause analysis for major or recurring issues and ensure corrective actions are fully implemented, verified, and sustained.
  • Maintain audit-ready records including procedures, service reports, maintenance history, turnover documentation, and CMMS data.
  • Champion safe work practices, environmental compliance, and disciplined process execution across all mechanical operations.
  • Coach and develop technicians and frontline leads to strengthen troubleshooting capability, technical depth, and execution consistency.
  • Support the Site Operations Director with status reporting, risk visibility, staffing readiness, and operational improvement initiatives for the mechanical plant.

    Qualifications

    • 5–8 years of experience in mechanical plant operations, HVAC service, critical cooling maintenance, or related uptime-critical environments such as data centers, healthcare, industrial plants, semiconductor, or large commercial facilities.
    • 1–3+ years of experience leading technicians, maintenance teams, or service providers in a live operational environment.
    • Strong knowledge of chilled water systems, cooling towers, pumps, CRAHs, AHUs, CDUs, and related controls platforms.
    • Experience managing vendors, maintenance programs, incident response, and service execution in 24x7 operations.
    • Familiarity with BMS, SCADA, DCIM, and CMMS tools.
    • Experience supporting commissioning, turnover, or operational acceptance of new or upgraded mechanical systems is preferred.

    • Strong planning and execution discipline across maintenance, backlog, and operational priorities.
    • Ability to lead technicians and vendors while reinforcing accountability and consistent field execution.

    Preferred Skills / Certifications

    • Experience with mission-critical cooling infrastructure and redundancy strategies in high-availability environments.
    • Familiarity with predictive maintenance, trend analysis, controls integration, and operational performance monitoring.
    • EPA Section 608 Certification preferred where refrigerant-handling responsibilities apply.
    • HVAC trade license, mechanical certification, or equivalent technical qualification where applicable.
    • OEM or manufacturer training on chillers, cooling systems, pumps, cooling towers, CRAH/CRAC systems, or related controls platforms preferred.
    • OSHA 30 preferred.

    Physical Demands / Work Environment

    • This is a mission-critical onsite role supporting 24/7 operations where continuous uptime is essential; as such, regular attendance, schedule flexibility, and response readiness are required.
    • To perform these duties, you must be able to frequently walk, bend, kneel, crouch, push/pull objects, and climb stairs.
    • You may be required to lift or move up to 39 pounds independently and participate in group lifts for loads 40 pounds or greater.
    • You must also be capable of maintaining balance while working from ladders or elevated platforms.
