About the role

Facilities Services supports the University of Chicago's mission by maintaining and enhancing the campus environment and providing excellent client service. The Facilities Manager works closely with clients, service providers, and other University partners to ensure high-quality services and minimize disruptions.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate regularly with clients and service providers to understand needs and activities, preventing negative impacts.
  • Create and manage service agreements to clarify service provision and differentiate between basic and additional services.
  • Tour prospective tenants, provide lease input, manage tenant relationships, and review budgets.
  • Evaluate and advocate for client needs and requests, coordinate small projects, conduct inspections, and manage vendor projects.
  • Represent Operations as a point of contact for other FS functions and assist in project management.
  • Supervise maintenance staff, develop policies, and oversee facility projects.
  • Respond to emergency situations and attend CSL house meetings.

Requirements

The Facilities Manager must have a minimum of a college or university degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. They should have 5-7 years of relevant work experience, including knowledge of facilities operations and project management. A valid driver’s license and computer literacy are preferred.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent communication, partnership, and collaboration skills. They should have a proven track record of successful relationship management and proactive communication, both verbally and in writing. Strong problem-solving abilities, independent judgment, and the ability to drive cultural change are also essential.

Skills

  • Demonstrated computer literacy in Windows environments, including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems.
