About the role
The Facilities Manager oversees the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and appearance of assigned office and laboratory facilities. This role provides leadership to facility personnel, technicians, and service providers to ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of building systems while delivering a high-quality workplace experience for occupants.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily operation and maintenance of assigned office and laboratory facilities to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable performance.
- Maintain facility conditions and proactively address issues that may impact occupant comfort, safety, productivity, or regulatory compliance.
- Ensure all building systems and support services operate effectively and meet organizational standards.
- Coordinate facility activities to minimize disruption to business operations and research activities.
- Manage and provide direction to facility specialists, technicians, and support personnel.
- Monitor contractor performance, quality of work, safety compliance, and adherence to service agreements.
- Oversee the execution and quality of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and general maintenance activities performed by internal staff and contracted service providers.
- Communicate effectively with facility staff, building occupants, leadership, contractors, and service providers.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Construction Management, Building Operations, Business Administration, or a related field; equivalent trade education and relevant experience will be considered.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 to 5 years of facility management, building operations, maintenance supervision, or related leadership experience. Experience supporting commercial office, laboratory, life sciences, healthcare, higher education, or industrial facilities preferred.
- Knowledge: Demonstrated experience supervising facility personnel and managing service providers. Knowledge of building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and general building maintenance.
- Licenses/Certifications: IFMA Facility Management Professional (FMP), Certified Facility Manager (CFM), BOMI certification, OSHA certification, or equivalent professional credentials.
