Facilities Maintenance Technician - AK Communications -$29/hour+ DOE - Anchorage, AK

About the Role

This position carries out maintenance, repairs, and damage correction for physical buildings, structures, and facilities, including machinery, equipment, and cleaning equipment. The role supports the ACS facility in Anchorage, AK, with roving duties to other Alaska ACS facilities as required. Tools, a company work vehicle, and airfare to other worksites are provided.

Responsibilities

• Perform repairs and preventative maintenance in construction trades, including facilities, HVAC, generators, and other assets.
• Repair and maintain modular furniture, interior partition walls, suspended ceilings, doors, door hardware, cabinets, and counters.
• Conduct interior and exterior painting using various paint applications.
• Modify and repair interior/exterior wall systems, roof systems, floor coverings, windows, and window coverings.
• Repair overhead doors, personnel doors, and related hardware.
• Monitor security systems as requested by the client.
• Repair chain link/security fencing, parking lots, sidewalks, private drives, and building grounds.
• Perform minor electrical work, such as lighting lamp change-outs and ballast replacement (depending on voltage).
• Test and repair systems and equipment using meters, schematics, drawings, and manuals.
• Make ergonomic adjustments to modular and office furniture per client request.
• Assist with winter snow removal for multiple buildings, including entrances, doors, and sidewalks.
• Perform locksmith duties, such as replacing locksets, changing interchangeable cores, cutting keys, and pinning cores.
• Repair or maintain walls and flooring, including drywall, VCT, sheet vinyl, carpet, carpet tile, and concrete.
• Clean work area, tools, and equipment.
• Escort or assist subcontractors and facilities techs (e.g., HVAC, electricians, plumbers) in client facilities.
• Assume a supervisory or lead technician role, including instructing others professionally.
• Travel approximately 25–35% of the time to remote sites in Alaska, with potential for more frequent travel based on client needs. Must be willing to fly on small aircraft.
• Work independently, prioritize workload, and collaborate as part of a team.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Three (3) years of directly related facilities and/or building maintenance experience.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years.

Preferred Qualifications

• Commercial HVAC experience.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

• Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, with occasional exposure to harsh weather conditions.
• Noise levels vary from moderate to occasionally loud.
• Frequent lifting and/or moving of up to 25 lbs; occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 50 lbs.
• Frequent physical activities, including sitting, standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and using hands/fingers.
• Travel up to 50% of the time throughout Alaska, including remote locations, with potential use of alternative transportation (e.g., snow machines, boats, small airplanes, ATVs).
