Facilities Maintenance Tech I

About the role

The Facility Technician performs a variety of routine and skilled tasks involving general maintenance of facilities, equipment, and grounds. This includes non-technical maintenance of plumbing, electrical, heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems at a level not requiring formal licensure. The role may also involve tasks related to other unlicensed trades, such as light equipment operation, carpentry, painting, and locksmithing.

Responsibilities

• Makes routine plumbing repairs, replaces lighting, and performs electrical-related repairs.
• Performs preventive maintenance on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
• Works independently on routine recurring assignments or assists with more complex tasks.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with fellow employees.
• Learns and performs assigned tasks quickly and correctly through on-the-job training, including safety regulations and precautions.
• Reads and interprets blueprints, machine manuals, and schematic drawings to assist in making plumbing and electrical repairs.
• Uses Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety procedures and appropriate equipment in completing assignments.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Minimum of 1 year of experience with mechanical responsibilities.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary trade or vocational school preferred (equivalent experience considered).

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Able to respond quickly to sounds and move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.
• Able to see and respond to dangerous situations.
• Able to wear personal protective gear correctly for most of the day.
• Able to sit or stand for up to 12 hours at a time.
• Able to work in bright, hot, or humid conditions as well as low-light situations.
• Frequent lifting, standing, sitting, walking, bending, reaching, pushing/pulling, repetitive use of hands, and grasping.
• Exposure to limited hazardous chemicals.
