Facilities Maintenance Mechanic

Responsibilities

  • Perform necessary repairs and maintenance to warehouse-related equipment (i.e. pallet jacks, high lifts, forklifts, etc.) to insure that adequate machinery is available for day and night warehouse operations.
  • Maintain and secure the battery-charging area, batteries and other equipment contained therein.
  • Review any equipment reports submitted by the maintenance supervisor, record actions/repairs taken, and maintains work orders on assigned tablets.
  • Interpret data and suggest maintenance schedule/activity adjustments to the Manager.
  • Ensure all preventative and predictive maintenance practices and procedures are followed.
  • Perform emergency repairs.
  • General cleanup of work areas.
  • Perform PM's (preventative maintenance) on equipment, and maintain PM log with proper documentation.
  • Comply with all OSHA guidelines regarding safety when working on equipment (Lock Out/Tag Out, placarding and required documentation, safe work environment, etc.).
  • Follows all safety policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for company tools and maintenance equipment used in performance of job duties, including inventory maintenance, safe operation, proper storage, and security of tool area.
  • Diagnose mechanical problems using charts, diagnostic software, technical manuals and expertise.
  • Perform repairs and maintenance on recycling equipment, compact heavy equipment and light trucks to maximize safe and productive operations.
  • Repair or replace parts, such as pistons, rods, gearboxes, valves, sprockets and bearings, using mechanic's hand tools.
  • Replace conveyor belts, electrical motors, hydraulic cylinders and other mechanical parts.
  • Read and interpret drawings and repair orders, communicate with supervisor and/or equipment operators for clarification of problems.
  • May discuss preventive techniques with equipment operators.
  • May repair and install plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems.
  • Able to work all shifts all days.

Qualifications

  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team atmosphere.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and minimum five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
