Facilities Maintenance II - Physical Plant Wasatch
Salary: $42,029.00 - $49,446.00 annually. Full-time, nonexempt salaried staff position.
About the role
Join Utah Valley University's Wasatch Campus team and play a vital role in maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and community members. This position offers the opportunity to develop and apply hands-on skills across a variety of maintenance and custodial functions, including building repairs, preventative maintenance, light construction, troubleshooting building systems, and facility upkeep. Individuals in this role contribute directly to the daily operation of the campus, gaining valuable experience in multiple trades while working independently and as part of a collaborative facilities team.
Based at UVU's Wasatch Campus in Heber, this role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving problems, working with their hands, and taking pride in maintaining facilities that support learning and community engagement.
Schedule
Monday through Friday, 1:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., with some flexibility around these hours. Seasonal snow removal may require overtime work, including weekends and holidays.
Responsibilities
- Performs preventive maintenance on campus facilities and carries out minor maintenance job-related duties as assigned.
- Secures doors and windows of all areas and all buildings.
- Assists in emergency procedures and assists in recycling and pest control.
- Maintains all types of floor surfaces, fabric surfaces, and upholstery.
- Maintains the grounds and compounds, including snow removal.
- Maintains halls, stairs, elevators, entryways, and lobbies.
- Maintains inventory and cleans custodial closets and storage areas.
- Maintains offices, classrooms, labs, conference rooms, dining room, food preparation and serving areas, and ballroom.
- Maintains and cleans restrooms, including porcelain and stainless steel surfaces, walls, floor drains, floors, etc.
- Helps the campus and facilities maintain a good public image by providing a safe, clean, comfortable environment conducive to learning for students, visitors, and employees.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Graduated with a standard high school diploma or the equivalent plus one to three years of experience related to key roles and responsibilities.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Must be prepared to use your own vehicle for travel to and from the job site.
Skills
Knowledge
- Training in proper use and disposal of hazardous chemicals and products.
- Body fluid cleanup and proper protection.
- Proper radio communications.
- Pest control.
- All floor types, such as terrazzo, cement, wood, vinyl, and ceramic tile as well as carpet fibers, weaves, and backings.
- Waxes/polishes, acids, other chemicals, buffers, extractors, vacuums, and scrubbers.
- Current cleaning techniques and proper cleaning chemicals.
Abilities
- Ability to withstand strenuous and adverse working conditions.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to perform skilled custodial duties, equipment maintenance, and minor plumbing.
- Ability to climb ladders to replace light bulbs, ceiling tiles, and perform other cosmetic repairs.
