Responsibilities

  • Adhere to established operating and safety practices and perform routine and preventative maintenance activities on VELCO facilities.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as painting, carpentry, partition rearrangement, snow removal, landscaping and general facilities upkeep.
  • Support other Facilities Maintenance staff with response to facility issues, including but not limited to climate control, odors, spills, damages, office organization; furniture, employee and equipment moves.
  • Oversee and escort outside contractors and/or other vendors for maintenance of VELCO facilities, in collaboration with Facilities Manager.
  • Maintain an awareness of and comply with all company safety and OSHA requirements such as forklift training, use of personal protective equipment, etc.
  • Assist senior staff with the maintenance of building security and immediately respond to building emergencies and security issues in conjunction with the Facilities Manager.
  • Assist with the performance of HVAC maintenance, servicing, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal system performance and efficiency.
  • Directly support field personnel such as Substation Maintenance and System Protection staff.
  • Assist Inventory warehouse personnel in receiving and delivery of materials.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A High School diploma or GED, technical education preferred.
  • An apprenticeship or ability to Join an Apprenticeship program (Plumbing, Electrical, HVAC).
  • A Vermont Commercial Driver’s Class B License or the ability to attain is required.
  • The Facilities Maintenance Assistant is an entry level position. A minimum of 1 year of demonstrated, relevant experience is required, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Qualifications

  • Ability to perform routine and preventative maintenance on building systems.
  • Self-starter, able to set priorities, and work independently.
  • Good interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Physical/Mental Demands: Role is physically demanding and requires manual labor. Required to work outside in varying environmental locations, under changing weather conditions and at times in less than desirable temperature extremes. Must be able to safely operate a forklift and snow removal equipment. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times. Requires the ability to maintain a valid driver's license, as well as a CDL Class B license. Must maintain an awareness of and comply with all company safety and OSHA requirements such as forklift training, use of personal protective equipment, etc.
