Facilities Custodian

Supervision

Works under the immediate supervision of the Community Services Director. No supervisory responsibilities are exercised.

Responsibilities

• Sweep, vacuum, mop, and steam‑clean carpet.
• Dust surfaces, wash glass, clean and polish furniture and woodwork.
• Clean, disinfect, and restock restrooms and fixtures.
• Collect trash and dispose of it in outdoor receptacles.
• Sweep sidewalks and maintain outdoor areas.
• Maintain and clean janitorial equipment; keep inventory of cleaning supplies for the assigned area.
• Move, unload, and shelve boxes of paper in the copier room (assistance available upon request).
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

• Walking/standing on concrete, tile, carpet, asphalt, or grass; distances typically 5–20 ft, occasionally several hundred feet.
• Lifting/carrying boxes of garbage bags, mop buckets, and trash bags up to 15 lb; frequent handling of paper boxes 30–50 lb.
• Reaching overhead on a step ladder to clean desks, cabinets, sinks, and retrieve cleaning agents.
• Bending, pushing/pulling mop buckets and vacuum cleaners, twisting, crouching, and using foot controls for vacuums.
• Regular attendance required.

Equipment and Tools

• Vacuum, broom, mop, mop bucket, steam cleaner.
• Dust cloths, trash bags, electric blower.
• Other related cleaning items as needed.

Environmental Factors

The position may involve exposure to bright or dim lighting, dust and pollen, extreme heat or cold, wet or humid conditions, fumes, noxious odors, and toxic or caustic chemicals.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or GED.
• Experience: Minimum of 2 years in general housekeeping.
• Other Requirements: Pass physical and drug tests; Town of Pecos City is a drug‑free workplace and all candidates must complete pre‑employment drug screening, background check, physical, and psychological examination.

Skills

• Reading: Ability to read English cleaning‑solution directions.
• Writing: English/Spanish proficiency.
• Math: Basic math for measuring cleaning solutions.
• Reasoning: Ability to perform routine work using common sense and safety practices.
• Managerial: Organize work and prioritize tasks.
• Interpersonal: Self‑motivated; able to work without close supervision.
