Facilities Control Specialist

About the Role

Join our team as a Facilities Control Specialist and be at the forefront of maintaining and optimizing our complex HVAC and refrigeration systems. This role involves managing building automation systems, troubleshooting technical and mechanical issues, and ensuring the safety and functionality of building environments.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, adjust, and repair electric, electronic, pneumatic, and digitally controlled building automation systems.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, design, modify, calibrate, and program system features, responding to technical and mechanical problems both remotely and onsite.
• Utilize journey-level skills to diagnose, repair, and maintain complex HVAC systems and their components.
• Fabricate and implement programs or building control strategies for digitally controlled systems.
• Perform major-to-minor overhauls, including disassembling, inspecting, replacing parts, reassembling, and testing equipment.
• Respond to service requests and emergencies to ensure the safety and functionality of building environments.
• Serve as the department specialist on building automation systems and train others on troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance.

Requirements

• Thorough understanding of electric, electronic, pneumatic, and digitally controlled building automation systems.
• Ability to use building automation system’s programming features to design, modify, and implement programs.
• Four or more years of progressively responsible journey-level experience diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining large, complex HVAC, refrigeration, and water treatment systems.
• Experience installing, inspecting, servicing, repairing, replacing, and calibrating building automation and control systems.
• Experience using programming features of building automation systems.
• Valid California Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.

Qualifications

• Relevant work experience within the previous five years in a similar role with current building automated controls is preferred.
• Five years of experience in facilities operations and maintenance in a large multi-building facilities environment is preferred.
• Working knowledge of Building Automation Systems (BAS) and/or Energy Management System (EMS).
• Experience with multiple controls systems integration and BAS/EMS programming.
• Familiarity with various controls protocols (e.g., LEED AP with Specialty).
• Building Operator Certification, Level 2 is preferred.
• Niagara N4 framework certification is preferred.

Pay

Step placement will be determined based on relevant qualifications and professional experience, in alignment with the department’s budget and equity guidelines. Initial step placement is not expected to exceed Step 10 ($8,014 per month) for highly qualified candidates. CSU Classification Salary Range: $6,705 - $9,768 per month (Step 1 – Step 20). Future increases, including step advancements, are subject to contract negotiations.

Schedule

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits-eligible permanent/probationary position. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
