Job Overview

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Guidance
    • Aid in planning and implementing academic and behavior management programs for students
    • Prepare weekly lessons, resources, and instructional materials for students
    • Absorb students in carrying out activities as outlined in the classroom teacher’s lesson plans
    • Deliver character education lessons daily
    • Communicate with parents of students in the guidance classroom on a regular basis
    • Interventions
      • Implement prescribed behavioral strategies and positive behavior supports
      • Act as a positive role model and de-escalate students using behavioral intervention strategies
      • Utilize a general understanding of Restorative Discipline Practices
      • Stay updated on research-based best practices and strategies by attending professional development trainings as required by the campus principal

    Qualification Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree
    • Texas School Counselor Certification or eligibility preferred
    • LCSW under Texas State Board of Social Work Examiners preferred
    • Valid Texas Mid-Management Certification or eligibility preferred
    • Minimum of 2 years working with children exhibiting challenging behaviors
    • Assist with campus investigations as deemed by campus principals
    • Comprehensive knowledge of behavior intervention strategies
    • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to compose correspondence, reports, and other required written materials
    • Understand and follow oral and written directions

    Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

    • Work in classrooms, offices, work stations, and meeting rooms
    • Occasional walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting/carrying work-related items weighing less than 40 pounds
    • Use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear
    • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus
    • Regularly involve walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting/carrying work-related items weighing less than 40 pounds
    • May work prolonged or irregular hours and must maintain emotional control under stress
