Responsibilities
- Must have strong mechanical and spatial skills and knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems combined with excellent welding abilities and fundamental knowledge of all welding procedures and metallurgy.
- Involves in the daily installation, maintenance, service and repair of a wide variety of manufacturing systems in accordance with sketches, and manufacturer's specifications, using various hand-, power- and welding tools as well as precision-measuring and testing instruments of the maintenance trade.
- Fabricates and assembles structural metal products, such as framework or shells for machinery, ovens, tanks, stacks, and metal parts for buildings and bridges according to job order, verbal instructions, and blueprints.
- Develops layout and plans sequence of operations, applying knowledge of trigonometry, stock allowances for thickness, machine and welding shrinkage, and physical properties of metal.
- Sets up and operates fabricating machines, such as brakes, rolls, shears, flame cutters, and drill presses.
- Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.
- Inspects fabricated parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements and / or verifies conformance of work piece to specifications, using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
- Reports time spent, parts used, settings and other job related activities in the CMMS system.
- Provides feedback to planners and supervisors in order to improve routine procedures, part availability and job preparation.
- Completes repairs and projects in a safe and timely manner, ensuring that all special PPE is utilized according to company rules and policies, following job related SOP’s.
- Provides training and feedback to the operators and production supervisors.
- Inspects work to assure proper installation, maintenance, and repair of buildings and equipment.
- Requisitions supplies, materials, tools, machine parts, and other necessary equipment.
Qualifications
- Vocational school training and/or substantial relevant work experience is required.
- Work history will be reviewed for stability where applicable and a clean criminal record is required.
- Must possess the ability to read and write effectively.
- Must be proficient in mathematics as it relates to mechanical engineering.
- Able to maintain good working relationship with all co-workers and to use good judgment in recognizing scope of responsibilities.
- Mechanically inclined, have good problem solving skills, be able to work independently, and be able to do highly accurate work that requires concentration and physical effort.
- Must have basic computer skills.
- Able to perform firm grasping, bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, standing, crouching, sitting, negotiating stairs, ladders, and slippery surfaces in a hot/cold (summer/winter) environment, occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to perform tasks involving cleaning chemicals, solvents, copper fumes, inks and lubricants.
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment for assigned duties.
