About the role

API Heat Transfer is seeking a Fab S/U Welder for its 2nd shift team. The ideal candidate will enjoy fixing things and be part of a transformative journey at the company.

Responsibilities

  • Check out material allocated for fabricating assignments with specifications provided on Bill of Materials or drawings.
  • Perform all necessary set-up operations preparatory to layout, cutting, or beveling, and welding when related to the job assignment.
  • Perform all layout operations relevant to the fabricating assignment, using tools as necessary or required.
  • Perform all necessary burning, cutting, and beveling operations necessary to establish the correctness of length, bevel, and size of holes as relating to the job assignment.
  • Do own chipping and removal of slag from burning or beveling operations.
  • Use proper tools, fixtures, or other devices as necessary to set up and align fittings from drawings within required specifications and tolerances.
  • Must be able to set up and operate coupling welder and tubesheet welder in the DFT line.
  • May be asked to assist lower grades.
  • Has necessary layout tools.
  • Exercises reasonable care and protection for all machine surfaces when welding or handling.
  • Notifies foreman of any questionable material that appears to be defective and should not be used.
  • Must remove work from rolls or positioner when completed.

Requirements

  • Must be able to pass a written competency skills test at time of interview.
  • Candidate will be required to pass a series of weld tests in order to be hired.
  • Must be able to qualify for necessary ASME Section VIII & IX Code Welding requirements, using Metallic Arc, TIG (Heli-Arc), and MIG.
  • Must be code qualified on shop welding procedures for carbon steel, stainless steel to carbon steel, stainless steel to stainless steel, including PED directive or other mandated customer welder qualification requirements for the listed metals.
  • Must be able to demonstrate consistent quality in both weld and fit up.
  • Productivity levels must be maintained to meet or exceed reasonable time estimates on a consistent basis.
  • Assessments to be evaluated by both department supervisor and Quality Control personnel on a periodic basis.

Benefits

  • Starting wage $30.45/hour, with incremental increases moving to $32.67/hour after one year, plus shift differential of $1.50.
