Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Ensure and promote safety as a top priority
- Supervise undergraduate engineering shops
- Aids students with design challenges and fabrication of prototypes
- Ensures engineering shops have adequate capabilities to meet the needs of various design projects
- Aids with budget projections and recommendations
- Provides a general understanding of the product development workflow to students
- Aids in training and supervision of undergraduate student workers
- Facilitates student use and safety training
- Facilitates set-up and take-down of materials for laboratory classes, as needed
- Manufactures test samples for curriculum labs as needed
- Acts as a role model for equipment and process safety
- Resolves laboratory-related problems/issues
- Maintains fabrication equipment in engineering shops
- Oversees and maintains housekeeping/5S standards for assigned labs
- Maintains inventory and ordering of fabrication shop laboratory supplies when necessary
- Maintains maintenance records for major repairs and PM’s
- Helps maintain maintenance records for major repairs and PM’s
- Maintains a professional appearance and demeanor at all times
Education/Experience
- Completion of an AAS in engineering technology or similar field desired
- Demonstrated experience with fabrication tools including manual and CNC mills, lathes, router, water jet and other hand and power tools (ShopBot, Flow, Tormach)
- Experience with 3D modeling CAD software such as SolidWorks, VCarve, FlowCut, FlowPath
- Experience and competency in various manufacturing processes required to produce quality parts and assemblies
- Has demonstrated success in organizing and/or managing a production grade machine shop
- Experience in a higher education or non-profit sector desired
