Fabrication Plasma Cutter
About the Role
Freeman Enclosure Systems is seeking a skilled and dependable Fabrication Plasma Cutter to join our manufacturing team in Batavia, Ohio. This position is responsible for operating plasma cutting equipment to accurately cut steel and other sheet metal materials according to blueprints, shop drawings, work orders, and production specifications. The ideal candidate has experience in a fabrication or manufacturing environment, understands basic metalworking principles, can read blueprints and measurements, and is comfortable working with hand and power tools. Attention to detail, safety, quality, and productivity are essential to success in this role.
Responsibilities
- Operate CNC plasma cutting equipment to cut sheet metal and plate to specified dimensions and shapes.
- Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, cut sheets, and production work orders.
- Set up and operate plasma cutting equipment according to job specifications.
- Load, position, and secure raw materials for cutting.
- Verify material type, thickness, dimensions, and quantities before beginning production.
- Inspect completed cuts for accuracy, quality, and proper dimensions.
- Use measuring tools such as tape measures, squares, calipers, and other inspection equipment.
- Make adjustments to machine settings as needed to maintain cut quality and accuracy.
- Identify and correct basic cutting or machine issues and communicate more significant problems to the supervisor or maintenance team.
- Remove slag, sharp edges, and excess material from finished cuts as required.
- Label and organize cut parts for the next stage of fabrication.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Perform routine cleaning and basic preventative maintenance on plasma cutting equipment.
- Follow all company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and proper PPE procedures.
- Safely handle and move sheet metal and fabricated components using appropriate material-handling equipment.
- Assist other fabrication departments when needed to support production and shipping demands.
- Maintain production schedules while meeting company quality standards.
- Work effectively as part of a team and communicate production issues promptly.
Requirements
- Experience in a fabrication or manufacturing environment.
- Ability to read blueprints and measurements.
- Comfortable working with hand and power tools.
- Understanding of basic metalworking principles.
