About the role
Sundt is seeking an Ironworker Welder/Fabricator (Shop) to join our team. Candidates should have experience with AWS D1.1/D1.6 and/or ASME section IX, and be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and weld test.
Responsibilities
- Plan, lay-out and perform all types of structural steel erection and fabrication work in accordance with plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards.
- Work in other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by project supervision.
- Take direction from a higher skilled worker or foreman.
- Continually seek opportunities to share knowledge and teach others.
- Eliminate waste such as waiting, rework, transporting, material storage, and time.
- High proficiency in all related trade mathematics.
- Inspect subordinates' work, ensuring accuracy and compliance with plans and specifications, explaining deficiencies, and taking necessary corrective action.
- Lift and carry heavy items up to 50 pounds.
- Use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis.
- Climb and maintain balance on steel/wood framework, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
- Use telephone, computer system, email, or other electronic devices on a limited basis to communicate with internal and external customers or vendors.
- Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.
- Comply with all safety standards and procedures.
Requirements
- Able to read and understand drawings, specifications, safety and quality standards, and effectively utilize all trade tools and equipment relevant to the work.
- Minimum of three years (level I), four years (level II), five years (level III), and six plus years (level Sr.) experience in the industrial/commercial construction industry.
- In-depth understanding of the ironworker trade.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Qualifications
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) is required (steel toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.).
- May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis.
- May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis.
- May use telephone, computer system, email, or other electronic devices on a limited basis to communicate with internal and external customers or vendors.
- Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.
- Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures.
- Will lift, push, or pull objects up to 50 lbs. on an occasional basis.
- Work up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions.
Skills
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and specifications.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- Knowledge of welding processes and techniques.
