About the role

We’re looking for enthusiastic, fun, and energetic people who take the work seriously, but not themselves. Server assistants will be responsible for the dining experience, including greeting guests, serving guests in a gracious and professional manner that represents the highest standards to ensure exceptional service consistent with Autograph Collection standards under the franchise of Mainsail Lodging & Development.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or higher
  • Previous hospitality/serving position preferred – minimum one year as Server Assistant, Backwaiter, or Food Runner in the greater Tampa Bay area
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to use technology, e.g., tablets

Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of all beverages, including liquors and wines
  • Serve guests in an efficient, courteous manner following the proper steps of service
  • Run food and assist servers as needed for The Lobby Bar, Pool, Upstairs Bar, and In-Room Dining
  • Comfortably run food, drinks, and hot boxes inside guest rooms
  • Report to work on time and in proper uniform/approved attire
  • Work as a team with all hotel team members
  • Check assigned station for cleanliness and set up tables with necessary items (salt, pepper, cutlery, glassware, dishware)
  • Have necessary tools to run the shift (tray, pen, corkscrew, crumber)
  • Knowledge of all menu items, including prep time, preparations, sauces, allergies, and accompaniments
  • Pair wines with meals
  • Keep Back of House clean and tidy following provided guidelines
  • Use large descriptors to showcase entrees
  • Be aware of specials, soups, drinks, and low-stock items
  • Handle station responsibilities and notify managers of potential issues to avoid impacting guest experience
  • Follow cash handling procedures and explain shortages/overages
  • Consistently follow proper steps of service as outlined in the training manual
  • Upsell items to guests at all interactions
  • Bus tables quickly and quietly, ensuring no sticky residue remains
  • Carry trays and detail tables by removing unused items
  • Never solicit tips
  • Attend monthly department meetings and daily stand-ups
  • Perform other duties as requested by management to service guests
  • Use POS (point of sale) system
  • Follow procedures in the training manual
  • Ensure successful guest assistance for high GSS (Guest Satisfaction Survey) scores according to Marriott standards

Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand for extended periods, including in potentially hot areas under heat lamps
  • Ability to walk and bend
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds
  • Ability to communicate clearly
  • Corrected vision to normal range
  • Long hours sometimes required
