Eyelet Toolmaker (1st & 2nd shifts)
The Toolmaker is responsible for building, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing precision tooling used in high-volume manufacturing of consumer battery components. This role supports production by ensuring molds, dies, fixtures, and gauges operate safely, efficiently, and to specification.
Key Responsibilities
- Build, modify, repair, and maintain production tooling, including: - Progressive and transfer dies - Injection molds - Stamping tooling - Fixtures, jigs, and gauges
- Diagnose and resolve tooling related issues that affect quality, yield, or uptime
- Perform precision machining using: - Manual mills, lathes, grinders, and EDM equipment
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T, and CAD models
- Collaborate with Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, and Maintenance teams to support production goals
- Perform preventive maintenance on tooling to extend tool life and reduce unplanned downtime
- Support new product launches, tooling trials, and process improvements
- Maintain accurate documentation of tooling repairs, modifications, and maintenance activities
- Ensure all work complies with safety, quality, and environmental standards (including regulated battery manufacturing requirements)
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to tooling reliability, cycle time, and scrap reduction
- Provide shift handoff communication to ensure continuity across shifts
Required Qualifications
- Journeyman Toolmaker certification or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 4+ years of experience as a Toolmaker in a manufacturing environment, preferably high volume or precision components
- Strong knowledge of: - Dies, molds, tooling steels, heat treatment, and tight tolerance machining - Measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and optical comparators
- Proven ability to troubleshoot tooling in a fast-paced production environment
- Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and specifications
- Willingness and ability to work 2nd shift on a consistent basis
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in battery, electronics, automotive, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies
- Experience supporting automated or high-speed production lines
- PLC or automation exposure related to tooling integration (a plus)
