About the Role
Zip-Pak, a division of Illinois Tool Works Inc. (NYSE: ITW), is seeking extruder machine operators to operate plastic extrusion lines in a clean, safe, temperature-controlled work environment. This position involves 12-hour shifts (7pm-7am) on a 2-2-3 day schedule with alternating weekends off.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain plastic extrusion lines to produce quality product within specifications at or above productivity targets (line speed, uptime, and yield).
- Quality:
- Utilize judgment in acceptable variance from specifications.
- Ensure proper equipment set-up.
- Perform and record quality checks.
- Communicate troubleshooting efforts with team members, supervision, and maintenance.
- Assure proper quantities are run (no significant over/under runs).
- Changeovers and Line Cleaning:
- Perform line changeovers.
- Perform line cleaning.
- Perform preventative maintenance as required.
- Packaging:
- Properly box product.
- Ensure product is identified correctly and legibly.
- Utilize correct pallet configuration.
- Assure pallet is secure and identified correctly and legibly.
- Safety/Housekeeping:
- Understand and observe all safety precautions, rules, and regulations.
- Understand and observe all HACCP and SQF regulations.
- Keep the area around the line clean.
- Report all safety hazards to supervisor.
- Paperwork:
- Complete all required paperwork properly and legibly.
- Demonstrate strong attention to detail, computer skills, accuracy, and data entry.
- Teamwork:
- Assist other operators with spool handling, changeovers, and line cleaning.
- Participate on task forces and committees as requested.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Extrusion experience desirable but not necessary.
- High School diploma or GED.
- Stable work history.
- Mechanical aptitude and good troubleshooting skills.
Physical Requirements
- Able to lift and carry 50 pounds.
- Able to stand for long periods of time.
- Able to walk, bend, squat, twist, and have close vision.
Pay
The hourly range for a Machine Operator 1 (night shift) is $20.00 to $22.00, plus an additional $1.00 shift premium. The pay rate for a successful candidate in the Atlanta metro area will depend on qualifications and prior experience.
Schedule
12-hour shifts (7pm-7am) on a 2-2-3 day schedule with alternating weekends off.
