Extruder Operator Nights

About the Role

Zip-Pak, located in Manteno, is seeking extruder operators to operate plastic extrusion lines in a clean, safe, temperature-controlled work environment. This position follows a 12-hour shift (7pm-7am) on a 2-2-3 day schedule with alternating weekends off.

Responsibilities

• Utilize judgment to maintain acceptable variance from product specifications.
• Ensure proper equipment set-up and perform quality checks, recording results accurately.
• Communicate troubleshooting efforts with team members, supervision, and maintenance to meet productivity targets (line speed, uptime, and yield).
• Assure proper quantities are run, avoiding significant over/under runs.
• Perform line changeovers, cleaning, and some preventative maintenance as required.
• Properly box product, ensure correct and legible identification, and use the correct pallet configuration.
• Assure pallets are secure and identified correctly and legibly.
• Understand and observe all safety precautions, rules, and regulations, including HACCP and SQF standards.
• Keep the area around the line clean and report all safety hazards to supervision.
• Complete all required paperwork properly and legibly, with strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.
• Assist other operators with spool handling, changeovers, and line cleaning.
• Participate on task forces and committees as requested.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Extrusion experience is desirable.
• High School diploma or GED.
• Stable work history.
• Demonstrates willingness to accept or seek new assignments.
• Mechanical aptitude and good troubleshooting skills.

Physical Requirements

• Able to lift and carry 50 pounds.
• Able to stand for long periods of time.
• Able to walk, bend, squat, twist, and have close vision.

Pay

The hourly range for an Extruder Operator 1 (night shift) is $20.00 to $24.00/hr for the Chicagoland area. The specific hiring rate within this range will depend on the candidate's qualifications and prior experience.
