About the role

The Extruder Operator is responsible and accountable for assuring all formulas are manufactured according to Q&FS specifications and QMP standards in support of the Company’s Quality and Food Safety principles.

Responsibilities

  • Main point of contact for all resources in the processing area of the plant
  • Coordinates all processing area activities in a safe, food-safe, and efficient manner in alignment with shift, area, and plant goals
  • Performs all assigned activities and job tasks within a line or area
  • Operates equipment in a safe and efficient manner
  • Takes corrective actions in solving problems to root cause level
  • Assesses equipment operating reliability and performs routine repairs, adjustments, and malfunction troubleshooting
  • Performs and/or works with Maintenance to complete equipment preventive maintenance
  • Maintains accurate records of QC checks, production numbers, or waste performance
  • Performs all shift support documentation in a quality manner
  • Performs QC tasks such as magnet checks, inspection of date codes, item numbers, dump logs, equipment attributes, all extruder and dryer system process control checks, etc.
  • Demonstrates a high degree of ownership for product quality: performs all standard quality checks and other quality-related duties
  • Understands production schedules, production computer systems, work instructions, and production inventories
  • Responsible for safety, quality, and food safety in their work area
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must be willing and able to work and accept varying shifts and schedules
  • Ability to understand and effectively communicate in the English language

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in a food manufacturing environment
  • 2 years of work experience within manufacturing
  • Working knowledge of food safety practices
  • Computer experience
  • Knowledge of inventory control principles

Skills

  • Ability to follow instructions

  • Knowledge of and compliance with Safety, GMP’s, and environmental procedures and regulations
  • Basic computer skills (ability to access, input, and retrieve information)

  • Ability to work in a standard manufacturing environment

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in an environment with a wide range of temperature, variation, and humidity
  • Lift and carry 65 pounds repeatedly in an 8 or 12-hour period
  • Push and pull 50 pounds repeatedly in an 8 or 12-hour period (objects include bags of raw materials and equipment changeovers)
  • Climb ladders and stairs
  • Work on overhead equipment
  • Walk unlimited distances every workday
  • Push or pull 800-pound totes on wheels across a cement surface 8 to 24 times for 8 hours
  • Work with hands overhead occasionally
  • Bend at waist 90 degrees and flex at knees 120 degrees 100+ times for 8 hours
  • Wear dust masks and hearing protection
  • Perceive visual and audible alarms and telephones while wearing hearing protection
  • Receive and transmit radio communication
  • Perform tasks with vision corrected to a minimum of 20/40 with full peripheral vision for forklift driving
  • Ability to perform tasks in an environment that contains significant levels of dust

This position does not supervise.

Travel Requirements

Expected percentage of travel, up to 5%.

Pay

Salary Range: $24.30 – $ USD. Pay is determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
