About the role

In this role, your primary responsibility is to ensure that publicly funded child care program funds are used properly and in compliance with regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing financial records, attendance logs, and program documentation from child care providers
  • Conducting audits either independently or as part of a team
  • Traveling to child care centers or family child care homes to perform on-site reviews
  • Interviewing providers, staff, and sometimes recipients about program operations and fund usage
  • Analyzing internal controls, billing practices, and compliance with state requirements
  • Documenting findings in detailed work papers and audit reports
  • Using spreadsheets and audit tools to organize and evaluate data
  • Communicating with providers, county agencies, and internal leadership

Some days are highly structured (data analysis, report writing), while others involve fieldwork and face-to-face interaction.

Requirements

  • 4 years of experience in auditing or accounting, which must have included 2 years of auditing experience in accordance with auditing standards or in accordance with prescribed management policies and/or procedures
  • OR completion of undergraduate core coursework in accounting, business administration, computer science, or related field; 24 months of experience in auditing or accounting, which must have included 12 months of auditing experience in accordance with auditing standards or in accordance with prescribed management policies and/or procedures
  • OR 12 months of experience as External Auditor 1, 66461
  • OR equivalent of the minimum class qualifications for employment noted above

Pay

Starting salary will be step 1 of the salary range associated with this position. New hires advance to the next step in the range after 6 months and annually thereafter. Based on collective bargaining and legislative activity, there may be cost-of-living increases awarded annually. Additional longevity supplements begin after 5 years.

Schedule

Full-time, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.

Work Location

This position will serve Hamilton County, so the applicant must reside within Hamilton County. Primary work locations include:

  • Children & Youth N. High Complex (Hamilton County, Ohio)
  • Franklin County, Ohio (Columbus)

Additional Information

  • This position is designated as a field position. Field workers spend the majority of their time traveling to perform duties such as inspections, monitoring, site visits, interviews, and data collection. Field workers manage their daily itineraries, report progress, and coordinate travel with their supervisor. Quarterly in-office attendance is required.
  • The final candidate selected for the position will be required to undergo a criminal background check. Criminal convictions do not necessarily preclude an applicant from consideration; an individual assessment will be made.
