Extension Agent for Horticulture - Laurel County
About the role
The Extension Agent for Horticulture is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs that promote best practices in horticulture, addressing local needs through research-based instruction, field demonstrations, and hands-on learning experiences. This role involves leading leadership programs such as Master Gardeners, collaborating with businesses and community partners, and providing expertise to improve horticultural knowledge and economic opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Developing and delivering educational programs focused on horticulture
- Leading and managing leadership programs like Master Gardeners
- Collaborating with businesses and community partners to enhance horticultural knowledge and economic opportunities
- Engaging in public outreach and volunteer recruitment
- Supporting Extension initiatives in agriculture, family and consumer sciences, 4-H youth development, and community arts
Requirements
State law requires a national and state criminal background check and a letter from the Cabinet for Health and Family Services stating the employee is clear to hire based on no findings of substantiated child abuse or neglect found through a background check of child abuse and neglect records as a condition of employment or involvement in this program.
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in horticulture, agriculture, or a related field
- Experience in horticultural education and outreach
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team

- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
