Extended School Year - Teaching Assistants
All current employees are encouraged to apply. A licensed special education teacher credential is required to lead a classroom or SLC classroom.
Schedule
- July 6 – July 24, Monday–Thursday, 8:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
- One-week break: July 27–30
- August 3 – August 13, Monday–Thursday, 8:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
Staff preferences regarding grade/age will be honored to the extent possible.
Pay
- $25 per hour for teaching assistants
Educators who are instructors in APS summer programs are eligible to enroll their elementary-aged child (grades 1–5, Fall ’26) in Arlington Community Ed’s SummerFun! at a 75% discount for non-vendor classes and 30% discount for vendor classes. Materials fees and some classes are excluded.
Responsibilities
- Attend a one-hour planning session prior to the end of the school year (uncompensated; built into the daily rate for teachers and related service providers)
- Develop and finalize schedules by June 5, 2026, and share them with families before the end of the school year
- Commit to working the full 5 weeks, using the scheduled vacation week for time off (preferred but not required; substitutes or job-share partners are welcome)
- Collect regular data toward existing IEP goals and report on it in “Summer Summaries” at the conclusion of the program
- Take and maintain daily attendance
- Complete all student summer performance reports by the end of the last day of the program
- Provide copies of reports for filing and mailing, and upload the report into EasyIEP
- Combine student performance reports into one document for parents and district file, and upload into students’ electronic files
