About the role

The position involves working with school-age students who have special education needs. The schedule includes extended school year work sessions from July 6 - 23, with each session lasting 6.25 hours.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to due process guidelines and use district recommended methods and instruments to evaluate and identify special education needs.
  • Participate in team decisions regarding eligibility and facilitate evaluation plans and reports.
  • Serve as a case manager for students by developing and maintaining Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), facilitating IEP meetings, providing parents/guardians with Rights and Procedural Safeguards information, and sharing progress reports.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with data privacy laws.
  • Provide direct instruction and assist students in achieving their IEP goals.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to plan and implement curriculum and assessments.
  • Support paraprofessionals in implementing IEP goals and provide job performance feedback.
  • Maintain and share data to monitor and evaluate student progress and communicate with parents.
  • Advocate for students' needs and develop and implement positive behavioral interventions based on Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs).
  • Possess knowledge and ability to utilize various techniques to maintain a safe environment and collaborate with related service providers.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, students, parents, and administration.
  • Utilize conflict management strategies and resources when necessary.
  • Attend cluster meetings related to special education.

Qualifications

  • Valid Minnesota teaching license in a special education field.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience teaching school-age students.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and positively with a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Knowledge and experience with due process procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience with conflict resolution.
  • Training and experience in behavior management and crisis response.
