About the role

The position involves working with school-age students who have special education needs under an extended school year schedule from July 6-23, 2023.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to due process guidelines and evaluate special education needs using district recommended methods and instruments.
  • Facilitate team decisions regarding eligibility and develop and maintain Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Support parents and guardians with Rights and Procedural Safeguards information and notify them of team meetings.
  • Develop and share progress reports with parents and provide job performance feedback to paraprofessionals.
  • Maintain and promote confidentiality according to data privacy laws and collaborate with general education teachers to plan and implement curriculum.
  • Provide direct instruction and assist students in achieving their IEP goals.
  • Collaborate with related service providers and utilize technology strategies/equipment available to students.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, students, parents, and administration, and bill third parties when necessary.
  • Manage conflicts and utilize conflict management strategies and resources for support.
  • Attend cluster meetings related to special education.

Requirements

  • Valid Minnesota teaching license in a special education field.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience teaching school-age students.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and positively with a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Knowledge and experience with due process procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience with conflict resolution.
  • Training and experience in behavior management and knowledge of crisis response.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge and ability to utilize techniques to maintain a safe environment (e.g., MANDT, CPI, building emergency plan, etc.).
  • Knowledge of current promising practices in the field and current state rules and regulations governing special education.
  • Collaborate with related service providers and communicate effectively with third parties.

Skills

  • Knowledge of technology strategies/equipment available to students.
  • Ability to utilize conflict management strategies and resources for support.
