Extended Leave School Counselor/Curriculum Facilitator

About the role
The Extended Leave School Counselor/Curriculum Facilitator will monitor the academic, vocational, social, emotional, and behavioral progress of students reintegrating to school after an extended leave. This role involves coordinating make-up work as the liaison between students and faculty, and developing a competency-based 9-12 school counseling curriculum based on the American School Counselor Association's National Standards.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement each student’s re-entry plan, including consultation with outside agencies, school counselors, parents, students, and other stakeholders, with clear expectations and timelines.
- Communicate student needs, strategies, accommodations, and modifications to others in accordance with the re-entry plan.
- Serve as the primary liaison between faculty, parents, and students regarding completion of assignments and assessments.
- Teach and model effective self-advocacy, organizational, and compensatory strategies to increase student independence during re-integration.
- Develop a learning environment that promotes safety, confidentiality, respect, and celebrates achievement of personal goals.
- Provide academic support and arrange for instructional support in content areas as needed.
- Monitor and communicate student progress to members of the student support team.
- Complete all required reports and documentation.
- Contribute to extended leave program planning and development.
- Interpret and utilize student data to facilitate appropriate interventions.
- Use technology resources to support and enhance the school counseling program.
- Review student progress, achievement, and performance, initiating follow-up as needed.
- Provide individual counseling to students with identified concerns or needs and refer students to additional services (e.g., school adjustment counseling, SBHC, or outside counseling).
- Serve as a member of the School Crisis Team and participate in Student Response Team (SRT).
- Facilitate the collection of school counseling data, depression screenings, survey results, and behavioral trends to determine curriculum and lessons.
- Consult with the career enrichment and counseling teams to schedule and implement the school counseling curriculum.
- Develop, maintain, and facilitate a standards-based 9-12 school counseling curriculum supporting academic, technical, workplace readiness, and personal/social competencies.
- Develop and maintain the school counseling curriculum calendar.
- Assess the effectiveness of school counseling lessons through student surveys and other methods.
- Facilitate the MetroWest survey and follow-up meetings for the district.
- Maintain and safeguard student records in accordance with school and state policy.
- Adhere to school counselor hours.
Requirements
- Master’s Degree in School Counseling or Counseling Psychology.
- Certification by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education as a School Guidance Counselor at the secondary level.
- Knowledge of the National Standards for School Counselors and the MA Model of School Counseling.
- Demonstrated successful professional counseling experience at the secondary school level.
- Experience with the development of career plans as outlined by the DESE.
- Solid oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to inspire excellence, achieve consensus, and respond effectively to the system’s mission with enthusiasm.
- Exemplary professional and personal history supported by references.
- Commitment to completing sixty (60) hours of professional development each year.

Compensation is based on credentials, approvals, and experience, in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School Teachers Association and the Blackstone Valley Regional School District Committee.
