About the role

Instruct and mentor students as they complete all requirements to obtain a high school diploma in the district’s Evening Academy program.

Responsibilities

  • Provide access to educational options that allow students to earn and recover credits using an online platform.
  • Design lessons and provide core academic instruction utilizing various instructional delivery methods and strategies such as technology-assisted instruction, individualized and small group activities.
  • Implement individual plans of instruction based on assessment results and prepare students to demonstrate measurable progress toward mastery of the program.
  • Confer with the coordinator and lead teacher to convey student progress and/or address behavioral concerns.
  • Maintain student progress and attendance records in the student SIS system and for the Educational Innovation Office.
  • Maintain accurate student records including but not limited to progress, attendance, grades, discipline, graduation requirements, and post-secondary counseling.
  • Complete and submit forms and required reports in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate regularly with all stakeholders regarding student progress, educational concerns and program needs. i.e.: parent teacher conferences, program coordinators, building administrators, district administrators, internal departments and other stakeholders.
  • Establish a well-organized, flexible classroom atmosphere with a print rich environment.
  • Develop relationships with school personnel and other stakeholders to ensure successful student referrals.
  • Participate in professional development activities and professional learning communities.
  • Report to work afternoon/Evening Hours

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • 2 years successful teaching experience with middle to late adolescent children—working with at risk children
  • Missouri Teacher certification in grades 7-12 in any subject
  • Desire to see students succeed and meet goals
  • Ability to work as a team with other teachers and staff
  • Ability to work independently when needed
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build rapport with students, school staff, families, community and other stakeholders

Physical Demands

The job requires the employee to be able to: sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, use hands, fingers, and reach with hands and fingers; bend, stoop, and lift objects of at least ten pounds. The job requires the employee occasionally to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Visual ability requires mono and color vision, close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Terms of Employment

  • 187 days, 8 hours a day, 5 days per week
  • Schedule: 8:00am-3:30 pm
  • Benefits: Health and Dental Insurance are provided. KCPS Defined Benefit Pension plan – mandatory 9% contribution is required from employees and matched by KCPS; Voluntary retirement savings plans are also available.
