Extended Day Care Aide

About the role

Extended Day Care Aide (Grade 11, FLSA Non-Exempt) provides after‑school care for school‑age children, supervising activities, serving snacks, assisting with schoolwork, ensuring safety, and handling logistical tasks. The position reports to the Director of the Extended Day Care Program.

Responsibilities

• Plan and supervise after‑school activities such as arts and crafts, sports, music, or dance.
• Monitor children for behavioral or emotional issues and communicate concerns to parents.
• Plan, prepare, and serve snacks and meals; clean dishes and put away food; may involve children in serving and cleanup.
• Assist with schoolwork: coordinate with teachers for tutoring, help with reading, math, or other subjects, and ensure homework is completed.
• Respond to basic emergencies; maintain CPR and basic first aid training (may be required upon hiring or for licensing).
• Know and follow state laws on child safety procedures and create a safe environment.
• Understand medication administration protocols and respond to health emergencies.
• Set up and break down the care space (e.g., gym, cafeteria) as needed.
• Write daily, weekly, or monthly reports on children’s behaviors and habits and share with parents and educators.
• Track payments and help schedule appropriate staffing levels based on attendance.

Requirements

• Current CPR and basic first aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
• Knowledge of state child safety laws and ability to implement safety procedures.
• Understanding of medication administration protocols and emergency response.
