Principal Duties And Responsibilities
- Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, environmental and infection control standards.
- Adheres to all patient care services standards.
- Provides transport for the following functions: Medical Supplies, Medical Equipment, Laundry/Linen, Waste, Building Services Stock, Food Items, Medical Records, Radiology Films, Deceased to Morgue, and other functions to be determined by Management.
- Maintains appropriate records (pick up time, priority status, special equipment needs etc.) of daily activities utilizing designated electronic information systems/software.
- Performs a variety of diverse emergent and scheduled tasks such as delivery of medical and non-medical equipment and supplies, cleaning, testing and sanitation of equipment, repairing/replacement of facility equipment upon customer request in a timely and courteous manner.
- Affords assistance in documentation, distribution and order for service requests.
- Operates large equipment in performing duties such as Powered Industrial Trucks (electric tug/Barrett), Trash Compactors and Corrugated Cardboard Balers.
- Special training/certification required for Powered Industrial Trucks.
- Handles, hauls, processes, appropriately labels and stores waste including: infectious waste, medical waste, pharmaceutical and chemotherapy waste products.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient and unit data per HIPPA regulations.
- Enhances job-related growth and development through participation in educational programs, in-service meetings, and workshops.
- Maintains a sanitary work environment by cleaning and maintaining all equipment, tools and surroundings in work areas including trash/linen shoots and equipment storage areas.
- Communicates patient concerns, discomfort to appropriate nursing staff if/when communicated by patient or visitors.
Education/Experience Required
- High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- One to two (1-2) years of related experience.
- Possess excellent organizational skills, interpersonal and customer relation skills.
- Must be able to communicate effectively.
- Must maintain confidentiality of patient and unit-care data per HIPPA regulations.
- After initial training must be able to consistently demonstrate proper lifting techniques.
- After initial training, must be able to comprehend and utilize technology associated with supply/transport/discharge management software/systems.
