Principal Duties And Responsibilities

  • Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Performs all Express Services related tasks demonstrating service orientation to fellow employees, patients, visitors and hospital staff.
  • Provides transport for the following functions: Medical Supplies, Medical Equipment, Laundry/Linen, Waste, Building Services Stock, Food Items, Medical Records, Radiology Films, Deceased to Morgue, and other functions to be determined by Management.
  • Maintains appropriate records (pick up time, priority status, special equipment needs etc.) of daily activities utilizing designated electronic information systems/software.
  • Performs a variety of diverse emergent and scheduled tasks such as delivery of medical and non-medical equipment and supplies, cleaning, testing and sanitation of equipment, repairing/replacement of facility equipment upon customer request in a timely and courteous manner.
  • Affords assistance in documentation, distribution and order for service requests.
  • Operates large equipment in performing duties such as Powered Industrial Trucks (electric tug/Barrett), Trash Compactors and Corrugated Cardboard Balers.
  • Special training/certification required for Powered Industrial Trucks.
  • Handles, hauls, processes, appropriately labels and stores waste including: infectious waste, medical waste, pharmaceutical and chemotherapy waste products.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient and unit data per HIPPA regulations.
  • Enhances job-related growth and development through participation in educational programs, in-service meetings, and workshops.
  • Maintains a sanitary work environment by cleaning and maintaining all equipment, tools and surroundings in work areas including trash/linen shoots and equipment storage areas.
  • Communicates patient concerns, discomfort to appropriate nursing staff if/when communicated by patient or visitors.

Education/Experience Required

  • High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • One to two (1-2) years of related experience.
  • Possess excellent organizational skills, interpersonal and customer relation skills.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively.
  • Must maintain confidentiality of patient and unit-care data per HIPPA regulations.
