Experienced Veterinary Technician / Assistant

About the role

Merrifield Animal Hospital is seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Assistant who is passionate about animal welfare and client education. The practice emphasizes work‑life balance with four‑day workweeks, limited rotating Saturday shifts, and a supportive, inclusive culture.

Schedule

Full‑time or part‑time positions are available. The schedule consists of four‑day workweeks with rotating Saturday shifts (approximately twice per month). No nights, on‑call shifts, or holiday hours are required. Regular lunch breaks are provided, and eligible full‑time employees receive six paid holidays.

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate support to patients and their owners.
• Practice Fear Free and low‑stress handling techniques to keep patients safe and comfortable.
• Educate clients to strengthen the human‑animal bond.
• Share knowledge, skills, and experiences with teammates.
• Use veterinary skills to make a positive impact in the community.
• Collaborate with the veterinary team to deliver excellent patient care.

Requirements

• Previous experience as a veterinary technician or veterinary assistant.
• Genuine passion for animals and veterinary medicine.
• Commitment to compassionate, low‑stress patient care.
• Strong communication and client‑education skills.
• Collaborative mindset and willingness to share knowledge.
• Desire for ongoing professional learning and growth.
• Ability to tolerate plenty of puppy kisses and kitty head‑butts.
