About the role

We are looking to hire an Experienced Transportation Engineer to plan, design, and manage large and/or complex traffic engineering projects. This role is expected to serve as a senior subject matter expert and support business development for traffic engineering, traffic operations, signal timing, TSMO, and transportation planning initiatives throughout Florida communities.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership
    • Serve as a senior subject matter expert in traffic engineering, traffic operations, signal timing, TSMO, ITS, and transportation planning.
    • Lead the development and implementation of signal timing plans, operational improvement strategies, corridor studies, traffic analyses, and transportation systems solutions.
    • Provide technical oversight, quality assurance/quality control, and mentorship to engineering staff.
    • Support projects involving traffic signal systems, traffic modeling, operational analysis, ITS technologies, and transportation engineering design.
    • Serve as Engineer of Record responsible for the review, approval, and sealing of engineering plans, specifications, and related documents.
    • Direct the preparation and review of engineering reports, plans, specifications, studies, permits, schedules, cost estimates, and design documents.
    • Identify, evaluate, and implement emerging technologies, software, and industry best practices to improve project delivery and operational efficiency.
  • Project Management & Delivery
    • Manage transportation projects through all phases of planning, analysis, design, implementation, and construction support.
    • Lead multidisciplinary project teams and coordinate effectively with clients, stakeholders, and project partners.
    • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, resources, risk, and overall project performance.
    • Support department workload forecasting, resource planning, and staff utilization efforts.
    • Provide field support, construction administration, and project oversight as needed to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Business Development & Market Leadership
    • Support the growth and expansion of the firm's transportation practice throughout Florida.
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with transportation agencies, local governments, industry partners, and key stakeholders.
    • Lead business development efforts including client engagement, opportunity identification, capture planning, pursuit strategy, teaming, proposal development, and pricing/scoping activities.
    • Identify and help develop new clients, markets, service offerings, and strategic growth opportunities.
    • Represent the firm through professional organizations, industry conferences, technical presentations, community engagement, and other leadership activities.
    • Serve as a visible and trusted ambassador for the firm within the transportation industry and professional community.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree (or higher) in civil engineering or relevant discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • At least eighteen (18) years of relevant experience.
  • PE license in any state; FL preferred.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have any/all of the following:

  • PTOE preferred.
  • Traffic Engineering Design experience (signals and marking, MOT, and lighting).
  • Multi-modal transportation planning experience (transit, micro-mobility, freight, bike, pedestrian, and trails).
  • ITS planning and design experience (CCTV, DMS, detection, communications).
  • Florida clientele base with DOT, districts, and local municipalities.
  • Experience with DOT and County projects.

Physical Requirements

The employee is occasionally required to:

  • Stand; walk.
  • Use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Pay

Salary Range: $180,000 to $210,000 annually; actual compensation may vary due to other factors such as: experience, skill set or location.
