About the role
We are seeking a highly motivated Experienced Roadway Engineer to join our Transportation team in Columbia, MD; Herndon, VA; or Washington, DC.
Responsibilities
- Perform roadway design from feasibility studies through final design.
- Develop plans, specifications, and estimates for a wide range of transportation improvement projects.
- Produce roadway alignments, profiles, typical sections, cross sections, and 3D models.
- Prepare quantity take-offs, cost estimates, and design reports.
- Develop and review plan sets and associated design documents.
- Utilize MicroStation, InRoads/OpenRoads Designer (ORD), and AutoCAD Civil 3D for design, modeling, and plans production.
- Participate in design meetings and coordinate with project team members.
- Serve as roadway task or project lead, as needed.
- Grow technical and leadership skills with the opportunity to advance into a Project Manager role.
- Other duties as assigned.
A valid driver’s license and some travel will be required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university.
- At least 4 years of relevant roadway design experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required; Maryland PE or ability to obtain within 6 months of start date.
Skills
- MicroStation and Bentley InRoads/OpenRoads Designer (ORD).
- Technical aspects of roadway design.
- MDOT policies and procedures.
- MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Project).
- Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.

Pay
Salary Range: $91,000–$120,000 (annual). Actual compensation may vary due to factors such as experience, skill set, or location.
