Experienced Registered Nurse-Neuroscience Progressive Unit Full-time Nights

About the Role

Shift Information: Full-time, 36 hours per week (3 x 12-hour shifts from 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM).

Our team serves the following patient populations: Neurosurgical, Stroke, General Neurosciences, and Epilepsy. Follow our team’s activities on the 10 West Instagram page.

The Neuroscience Progressive unit is a 29-bed unit comprised of:

• A neuroscience step-down (12 beds) for complex neurological patients, including stroke care immediately post TPA or thrombectomy. Nurses in this area frequently assess neurological status and continuously monitor telemetry and pulse oximetry. Patients may have cerebrospinal fluid drains such as extraventricular drains (EVDs) and lumbar drains.
• An Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) (6 beds) for electively admitted patients monitored for seizure events using video electroencephalography (vEEG). Nurses respond promptly to assess and ensure patient safety during events.
• A neuroscience floor (11 beds) for more stable medical and surgical patients with neurological diagnoses, including brain tumor resections, neuromuscular disorders, demyelinating disorders, stroke, and seizures.

Responsibilities

The Clinical Nurse reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine, adhering to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program. The registered professional clinical nurse (RN) is accountable for providing and coordinating clinically competent, evidence-based care, including diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation.

Requirements

• Graduate of an NLN-accredited school/college of nursing.
• Baccalaureate degree in Nursing or higher.
• Current State of Illinois Registered Professional Nurse license.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification through the American Heart Association.
• Analytic ability (conceptual and quantitative).
• Strong oral, listening, and written communication skills.
• Effective human relation skills for collaboration in difficult situations.
• Proficiency in keyboard use for data entry/retrieval.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a specific clinical area.
• Nursing specialty certification, if eligible.
