How you will contribute

The Senior Designer models complex mechanical piping and/or plumbing systems based on provided designs and then develops all associated system drawings, specifications, calculations, and bill of material lists for their assigned projects. The Senior Designer plays a critical role as a lead design member of a project team and serves to model and coordinate comprehensive systems that vary in size and scope for the assigned/designated division at J. F. Ahern.

The design role is critical in that it is the origin point for all projects, and as such, the Senior Designer consistently operates independently and consistently in a methodical yet fast-paced manner to ensure that the subsequent stages of each project are set up for success and timely completion.

What you need to qualify

  • Candidates must have 3-5 years of experience designing mechanical piping and/or plumbing systems
  • An Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Design, Civil Engineering, Computer Aided Drafting/Design or related field experience
  • Proficiency in a recent version of Revit, Navisworks and Autodesk Construction Cloud(Forma)
  • A strong understanding of commercial or industrial building construction
  • A working knowledge of Wisconsin plumbing code, or mechanical piping systems
  • Ability to manage a design team’s schedule, lead coordination efforts, problem solve
  • Strong math skills and the ability to read blueprints
