About the role

Enter WSP is currently seeking a POWER Testing and Energization (PTE) Experienced P&C Field Services Technician for project locations in Texas and Louisiana. This opportunity supports a wide range of testing and commissioning activities, including protection and control system testing.

Responsibilities

  • Execute moderately complex assignments, ensuring regulatory compliance, safety adherence, and data integrity across job sites.
  • Provide day-to-day support to field teams, resolve challenges on-site, and mentor junior technicians.
  • Document site activities using field forms, digital data tools, and mobile applications.
  • Support the Project Lead or Field Supervisor on projects, including performing hands-on protective relay testing and equipment cleaning.
  • Escalate complex technical problems or unexpected field conditions to the site lead or project manager.
  • Communicate progress, field observations, and potential delays to the project team.
  • Review the work of less experienced technicians for quality and accuracy, providing informal guidance as needed.
  • Maintain attention to detail when filling out logs, photo documentation, and label entries.
  • Collaborate with other technicians to maintain workflow, safety, and quality standards.
  • Aid in monitoring subcontractor performance and activities, reporting observations to field leadership.
  • Perform clerical responsibilities such as timecards, expense reports, and project reports.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with a minimum of 7 years of experience in the electrical testing industry, including experience in medium and high voltage circuit breakers, power transformers, instrument transformers, and substation protection and controls testing.
  • Demonstrable expertise on transmission, generation, and distribution relays (SEL, Basler, Beckwith, and GE families) and protective schemes.
  • Technical skills related to protective relays, including relay calibration utilizing test sets/measuring devices such as Omicron CMC 256/356 and Doble F6150, control scheme testing, testing of the sensing CT/PT circuits, ability to upload settings to microprocessor relays, and static & dynamic testing of microprocessor-based protective relays.
  • Prominent experience with electrical field testing standards, practices, and procedures, such as NETA, IEEE, and NFPA applicable standards.
  • Proven experience with electrical field testing standards, practices, and procedures, such as NETA, IEEE, and NFPA applicable standards.
  • Experience using technical software such as ProTesT, Protection Suite, ENOSERV RTS, Omicron Test Universe, and AcSELerator Quickset for testing purposes and data review.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical drawings.
  • Physical stamina to work in outdoor and physically demanding conditions.
  • Skilled in preparing field logs, sketches, and digital reports.
  • Capable of critical thinking and problem-solving skills to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from inspection and testing results.
  • Ability to support a wide variety of tasks in dynamic or changing environments.
  • Committed to continued learning and development in technical field services.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and ethical behavior in technical environments.
  • Capable of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Reliable, punctual, with the ability to work independently or with a team.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
  • Willingness and physical ability to lift up to 35 pounds individually, and up to 100 pounds with assistance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Technology degree in a similar discipline.
  • Experience in testing and troubleshooting electromechanical relays.
  • Experience in testing and commissioning electrical equipment on high voltage substations such as CTs, CCVTs, PLC systems, and DC systems, including batteries and battery chargers.
  • Current OSHA 30-hour or 40-hour HAZWOPER certification.
