About the role

Enter WSP is currently initiating a search for a POWER Testing and Energization (PTE) Experienced P&C Field Services Technician for project locations in Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma. This opportunity supports a wide range of testing and commissioning activities, applying client testing standards, industry standards (IEEE, NETA, NFPA, NESC), and manufacturer recommendations.

Responsibilities

  • Execute moderately complex assignments, contributing to regulatory compliance, safety adherence, and data integrity across active job sites.
  • Provide day-to-day support to field teams, helping resolve challenges on-site, and mentoring junior technicians to promote quality, efficiency, and safe work practices.
  • Support the Project Lead or Field Supervisor on projects, performing assigned testing and commissioning tasks for Protection and Control systems on high voltage substations.
  • Perform hands-on protective relay testing using relay test sets such as Omicron CMC 256/356 or Doble F6150, including testing of relays like SEL-311L, SEL-387, SEL-487, SEL-421, SEL-351S, GE L90, GE D60, and more.
  • Document site activities using field forms, digital data tools, and mobile applications.
  • Support equipment cleaning, inventory control, and calibration as directed.
  • Escalate complex technical problems or unexpected field conditions to the site lead or project manager.
  • Participate in daily safety briefings and ensure compliance with health and safety protocols.
  • Communicate progress, field observations, and potential delays to the project team.
  • Review the work of less experienced technicians for quality and accuracy, providing informal guidance as needed.
  • Maintain attention to detail when filling out logs, photo documentation, and label entries.
  • Collaborate with other technicians to maintain workflow, safety, and quality standards.
  • Aid in monitoring subcontractor performance and activities, reporting observations to field leadership.
  • Perform clerical responsibilities such as timecards, expense reports, and project reports.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with a minimum of 7 years of experience in the electrical testing industry, including experience in medium and high voltage circuit breakers, power transformers, instrument transformers, and substation protection and controls testing.
  • Demonstrable expertise on transmission, generation, and distribution relays (SEL, Basler, Beckwith, and GE families) and protective schemes, including relay calibration utilizing test sets/measuring devices such as Omicron CMC 256/356 and Doble F6150, control scheme testing, testing of the sensing CT/PT circuits, ability to upload settings to microprocessor relays, and static & dynamic testing of microprocessor-based protective relays.
  • Pristine experience with electrical field testing standards, practices, and procedures, such as NETA, IEEE, and NFPA applicable standards.

  • Experience using technical software such as ProTesT, Protection Suite, ENOSERV RTS, Omicron Test Universe, and AcSELerator Quickset for testing purposes and data review.

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Technology degree in a similar discipline.
  • Experience in testing and troubleshooting electromechanical relays.
  • Experience in testing and commissioning electrical equipment on high voltage substations such as CTs, CCVTs, PLC systems, and DC systems, including batteries and battery chargers.
