About the role

Johnson Controls, a global leader in thermal management, mission-critical building systems, energy efficiency, and decarbonization, seeks a skilled Service Technician to join its team. The ideal candidate will troubleshoot and repair installed systems, including fire alarm, access control, security intrusion, sound, and communications systems.

Responsibilities

  • Receive service calls from the Service Resource Center and diagnose equipment/system malfunctions.
  • Contact customer representatives to ascertain equipment/system issues and perform service and repairs on electronic fire alarm systems and other related building system products at customer sites.
  • Follow prescribed troubleshooting procedures and refer to technical manuals, part manuals, change notices, and bulletins to repair equipment.
  • Service, troubleshoot, and install various manufacturers' Fire & Life Safety systems, including SimplexGrinnell.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, software/systems, programs, schematics, and operational product manuals.
  • Communicate with district staff and customers to ensure customer satisfaction and complete Service Acknowledgements with proper coding through communication devices.
  • Obtain customer signatures upon completion of service call assignments.
  • Participate in a scheduled On-call rotation and provide training or mentoring to others on the service team.
  • Provide solutions and outcomes at the time of service, acting as a trusted advisor to customers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

How You Will Do It

  • Program fire alarm, security, and access control system panels.
  • Organize and effectively utilize technical resources, information, material, and support to execute all assigned tasks efficiently.
  • Complete and submit all required task-related, activity, productivity, and other documentation in a timely manner.
  • On-call and after-hours work required on occasion at customer need.
  • Provide recommendations and solutions to ensure facility efficiency, including upselling opportunities.
  • Provide quotes to support recommendations and solutions.

Required

  • 3+ years’ experience with fire alarm, access control, security intrusion, sound, and communications systems.
  • Able to interpret blueprints, diagrams, and specifications.
  • A good working knowledge of computers.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication and outstanding customer service skills.
  • Ability to organize and effectively utilize technical resources, information, material, and support.
  • Capable of performing physical labor, including carrying and moving equipment and tools up to 50-70 lbs.
  • Able to work in unusual and sometimes difficult positions, such as climbing ladders, scaffolding, and high lift equipment up to 40 feet.
  • Able to work flexible hours, including weekends, to meet customer requirements.
  • Overnight travel may be required.
  • Demonstrate a high level of customer service.
  • Maintain truck inventory to ensure timely responses to customer needs.
  • Able to adhere to, implement, and follow safety guidelines and procedures at all times.
  • Strong organizational skills, positive attitude, and the ability to learn quickly.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and a driving record meeting company requirements.
  • Retain any licenses required by national, state, and local codes.

Preferred

  • NICET II preferred.
  • Technical training preferred.

The position offers a competitive benefits package, including a hiring hourly range of $23.00 - $32.00 (hourly rate determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data).
