Experienced Fire Protection Engineer

Responsibilities

• Conducting fire hazard analysis
• Conducting NFPA/ICC code reviews
• Specifying technical aspects of fire protection systems to ensure Life Safety compliance
• Performing building walkdowns to assess for compliance according to Department of Energy standards
• Mentoring and providing direction to less senior engineers within the organization
• Scoping technical tasks and develop creative solutions to assigned problems
• Utilizing SRNS systems and meeting SRNS requirements with minimal supervisory guidance
• Accepting complex tasks and receiving minimal guidance from senior professionals
• Incorporating conventional engineering or scientific practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning
• Providing limited guidance and direction to less senior engineering professionals
• Carrying out development and qualification programs on tasks concurrent with other phases such as design and fabrication to better evaluate and minimize future problems
• Developing alternate solutions to existing problems
• Performing all detail work necessary to determine best solutions
• Evaluating proposals and make recommendations based on proposed projects/tasks in area of assignment
• Delegating and managing portions of the detail work to less senior personnel
• Preparing costs and schedule estimates on proposed projects/tasks in assigned area
• Demonstrating cost and schedule consciousness through timely completion of assigned tasks and projects
• Preparing manuals and other documents supporting or publicizing the technical effort
• Demonstrating creative ability through medium of patent disclosures, problem solving, engineering reports, technical papers and articles

Qualifications

• P3: Bachelor's degree in an engineering field plus at least five years of experience (YOE) in a relevant role, OR Master's degree in relevant field plus at least two years of experience (YOE), OR Doctoral degree in relevant field
• P4: Bachelor's degree in an engineering field plus at least ten years of experience (YOE), OR Master's degree in relevant field plus at least eight years of experience (YOE), OR Doctoral degree in relevant field plus at least five years of experience (YOE)
• P5: Bachelor's degree in an engineering field plus at least fifteen years of experience (YOE), OR Master's degree in relevant field plus at least twelve years of experience (YOE), OR Doctoral degree in relevant field plus at least eight years of experience (YOE)
