About the role
Haines & Kibblehouse, Inc. is looking for an Experienced Driller Operator to join our team. The Experienced Driller Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient setup, operation, and maintenance of drill rigs used for micropile and drilled pile installation. This position requires strong equipment operation skills, the ability to read and follow project plans and specifications, and a working knowledge of preferred drilled pile installation methods. Experience with Comacchio drill rigs is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and maintain micropile drill rigs and related drilling equipment.
- Operate drilling equipment safely and efficiently in accordance with company safety practices, project requirements, and site conditions.
- Perform drilling operations for micropiles, drilled piles, and related foundation work as assigned.
- Confirm that drilling layout, locations, and field markings match approved project plans before beginning work.
- Read and interpret project drawings, plans, specifications, and layout information.
- Understand and follow project specifications for the preferred installation method of drilled piles.
- Monitor drilling depth, alignment, equipment performance, and installation quality throughout the work activity.
- Adjust drilling techniques as needed based on soil, rock, subsurface, and site conditions.
- Assist with casing, reinforcement placement, grouting, and other related installation activities as required by the project.
- Perform routine equipment inspections and basic preventive maintenance.
- Communicate with foremen, superintendents, project managers, surveyors, engineers, and crew members to support safe, accurate, and productive work.
- Complete daily reports, drilling logs, inspection forms, and other required documentation accurately and timely.
- Assist with mobilization, demobilization, loading, unloading, and general jobsite setup.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all company, OSHA, and site-specific safety requirements.
Requirements
- Prior experience setting up and operating micropile drill rigs or similar foundation drilling equipment.
- Ability to understand and follow project specifications related to drilled pile installation methods.
- Ability to read construction drawings, plans, specifications, and layout information.
- Ability to confirm layout and drilling locations against approved project plans.
- Knowledge of drilling equipment, tooling, maintenance practices, and jobsite safety requirements.
- Strong attention to detail, reliability, and ability to work as part of a crew.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on active construction sites.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating Comacchio drill rigs.
- Experience with micropiles, drilled piles, tiebacks, soil nails, rock anchors, or specialty foundation systems.
- OSHA 10-Hour or OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification.
- Ability to operate other earth moving equipment is a plus.
- Experience working on heavy civil, geotechnical, or foundation construction projects.
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as needed.
- Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, reach, and work around heavy equipment for extended periods.
- Ability to work in outdoor environments, including exposure to heat, cold, dust, vibration, noise, and uneven terrain.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment at all times while on the jobsite.
Work Environment
- Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.
- Regularly exposed to high, precarious places.
- Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.
- Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
- Noise level is usually moderate.
