About the role

As an experienced Auto Glass Technician, you’ll deliver vehicle glass repair, replacement, and recalibration services at a Safelite Shop or Mobile Glass Shop. This position may be filled at the Technician, Senior Technician, or Master Technician level based on your experience, qualifications, technical capabilities, and certifications. Senior and Master Technician roles include coaching, mentoring, and technical leadership responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all vehicle glass repair and replacement services with a focus on safety, quality, and exceptional customer service.
  • Clean customer vehicles after every job.
  • Recalibrate automotive safety systems, including troubleshooting and completing diagnostic testing.
  • Operate Safelite’s tools and technologies: True Seal®, Ezi-Wire™, Glass Table System (GTS), chemicals (per the “Safelite Way of Fitting”), work order and customer administration systems, and Safelite's handheld Mobile Resource Management (MRM) technology.
  • Safely operate company and customer vehicles throughout the workday.
  • Communicate with scheduled customers in-person, via text, and by phone; present, promote, and sell Safelite promotional items and services.
  • Serve as a technical resource, support technician development, share best practices, and assist with coaching and mentoring (Senior and Master Technician levels).
  • Perform other duties as assigned and comply with all policies and standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED/Equivalent (preferred).
  • Valid state-issued driver’s license and any other required licenses to operate a company vehicle.
  • Proven experience as an Auto Glass Technician (2+ years preferred).

Qualifications

Placement as Technician, Senior Technician, or Master Technician depends on experience, technical capability, certifications, productivity, quality performance, leadership experience, and customer service excellence.

  • Technician: Typically 1+ years of vehicle glass installation, repair, replacement, recalibration, or closely related automotive service experience.
  • Senior Technician: Typically 3+ years of vehicle glass experience with demonstrated technical proficiency, quality performance, and independent operation.
  • Master Technician: Typically 5+ years of vehicle glass experience with advanced technical expertise and demonstrated mentoring, coaching, or training capability.

Experience ranges are guidelines and may vary based on qualifications and business needs.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, work in tight spaces, bend, and twist.
  • Proficiency in using a variety of hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle in compliance with all federal, state, and local laws; agreement to be monitored via in-cab vehicle safety camera/video surveillance technology.
  • Maintain professionalism and passion for outstanding customer service, exceeding customer expectations.
  • Ability to work safely outside in a wide variety of weather conditions and extreme temperatures for extended periods.
  • Ability to work with chemicals (including flammable chemicals) per the “Safelite Way of Fitting.”
  • Flexibility in work schedule, including start and end times to accommodate customer needs.
  • Proficiency in using computerized diagnostic tools for recalibrations and troubleshooting.
  • Problem-solving and ability to troubleshoot issues independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to read, write, and interpret English and technical directions.
  • Ability to communicate orally (via phone) and in writing (via computer or other electronic means).
  • Maintain a professional appearance, adhering to Company uniform and PPE policies.
  • Willingness and ability to maintain stable performance under professional or personal pressure (e.g., time pressure and productivity measures).

Pay

  • Technician: $25.25 - $28.00/hr
  • Senior Technician: $28.00 - $31.00/hr
  • Master Technician: $30.50 - $34.00/hr

Actual compensation is determined based on experience, qualifications, certifications, geographic market, and internal equity.
