About the role
FiberTel, LLC is seeking an experienced Aerial Lineman for our Reno, NV location. The successful candidate will build new aerial plant from make-ready prints and perform installation and repair of aerial telecommunication cable using tools such as lashers, climbing hooks, and buckets.
Responsibilities
- Load, drive, deliver, dig, remove, and place various types, sizes, and weights of construction materials and equipment.
- Install and repair aerial telecommunications cable.
- Safely use hand tools and equipment including wrenches, drills, ladders, lanyards, saws, lashers, and climbing hooks.
- Safely operate mechanized equipment such as bucket trucks, digger derricks, and excavators.
- Set up safety perimeters using signage, cones, and safety barriers.
- Flag traffic when required.
- Understand and adhere to separation and clearance regulations.
- Safely work aloft using climbing hooks and ladders.
- Work flexibly across multiple locations.
Requirements
- Pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
- Possess a valid driver’s license or be eligible and willing to obtain the required license for the position.
- Maintain a good driving record.
- Basic knowledge of and ability to operate various types of utility trucks and equipment safely.
- Basic knowledge of and ability to use hand tools and equipment safely.
- Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is required.
- Effectively communicate with customers and employees.
- Willing and able to work in all weather conditions.
- Ability to climb telephone poles and work in a bucket truck at heights up to 40 feet.
- Able to lift and carry 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs as needed, with or without assistance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous construction experience, preferably in the telecommunication industry.
- Able to perform all duties in telecommunications construction, including pole transfers, maintenance builds, new builds, cable installation, over lash, and strand construction.
- Ability to travel.
Working Conditions
- Full-time hourly position, expected to work at least 40 hours per week.
- Operates in an outdoor environment with exposure to extreme weather conditions (cold, rain, sleet, snow, humidity, high temperatures, high wind).
- Work environment varies throughout the day, including changes in terrain, traffic, urban, and rural settings.
- May be exposed to natural gas and risk of electrical shock.
- Exposure to moderate to loud noise levels.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for long periods (up to 12 hours at a time).
- Tolerate work in extreme weather conditions.
- Speak and hear worksite safety instructions.
- Withstand prolonged and repeated lifting, standing, climbing, kneeling, reaching, feeling, crouching, and crawling.
- Regularly lift 75 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Pay
$28–32 per hour, depending on experience. Higher wages for CDL holders.
